'For sure' – Pochettino answers whether Romelu Lukaku will return to Chelsea

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has been asked about the future of striker Romelu Lukaku and whether he will return to the club when his loan move ends this summer.

It’s been heavily reported over recent months that a new striker is most likely going to be the transfer priority for Chelsea in the summer window, and as we know, Lukaku is still a Chelsea striker even if he has been out on loan the last couple of seasons.

Lukaku fell out with the then Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, and he did that infamous interview halfway through the season. He annoyed Chelsea fans, many of whom will never accept him back at the club. But would Pochettino accept him back?

Well, it seems that he would…

The Blues boss had more embargoed quotes released from his pre-match press conference for Arsenal late last night, and there was a question about the future of Lukaku.

“He’s a Chelsea player, so for sure we will pay attention,” Pochettino replied when asked about Lukaku.

“It’s an option. But still we did not take any decision.”

Could the impossible actually happen? Could Lukaku, a guy who has seemingly fallen out of love with Chelsea and seemingly never wanted to play for them again, return and wear the Blues shirt once again? It still seems very impossible for me.

Chelsea need a striker

We are still absolutely missing more of a complete number 9. Nicolas Jackson is doing well, but he is the only 9 we have at this club and you absolutely need two out and out strikers if you want to compete back at the very top again.

We also lack more of a target man profile, a striker to be a focal point and lead the line. Is Lukaku the answer? Let’s just say I’d be very sceptical…..
