While it was no surprise to many of us that Mark Streit would be testing the waters of Free Agency and had turned down the NY Islanders best offer, general manager Garth Snow hates letting an asset go for nothing.
Early today word come that he had indeed made at least something out of nothing. Snow had traded Mark Streit's rights for a fourth round selection in 2014 and a...

With less than four weeks to go until NHL free agency kicks off July 5th, the New York Islanders have some tough decisions to make about player personnel for the 2013-2014 season. One of them, and a high priority, is to decide whether to sign goaltender...
Last week, the CBC's Hotstove Tonight crew suggested that former Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas was considering making an NHL or European comeback, but the Boston Globe's Kevin Dupont spoke to Thomas' agent about the situation, and it sounds like the plucky goaltender will remain in his bunker in Colorado, counting his gold doubloons (kidding, sort of):
Continuing on with this series we look at the Islanders.
The Islanders will at last pick outside of the top-10 after an optimistic season that saw them make the playoffs for the first time since 2006 where they also made it in the 8th spot. What did the season mean for the Islanders? Simply put, hopeâ¦hope for the future of the former dynasty and the dawning of some light...
It seems that nothing involving Tim Thomas is ever simple. His path to the NHL was very unorthodox. His style of play in net is very unorthodox. His sudden exit from the NHL was very unorthodox. And, now, it seems like he may make a slightly unorthodox return to hockey next season.
According to CBC’s Elliotte Friedman, Thomas is mulling over the idea of returning to hockey...
The two-time Vezina Trophy winner is reportedly considering lacing up his skates once again, but he may not necessarily be planning a return to the NHL.
Now that Tim Thomas‘ one-year sabbatical from the NHL is over, he may attempt a comeback in 2013-14.
Elliotte Friedman of CBC contacted Thomas’ agent, who said everything is still “status quo,” but in doing some more digging, Friedman found out that Thomas may be considering a return to hockey. What’s unknown is whether Thomas would want to play in the NHL or overseas....
Bob McKenzie at TSN says if Mark Messier is interested, he can't be ruled out as a contender for the Rangers vacant head coach position, but there's no hurry to get him behind the bench.
McKenzie adds that Edmonton talked to Messier about considering their head coach opening last offseason, however, he declined because he either wasn't prepared to commit to coaching...
Is it true? Is the team that has never won a playoff series in my lifetime on the rise? Are the ghosts of the Nassau Coliseum stirring as the team prepares for its thirty mile move to Brooklyn? Are the Stanley Cups that my parents saw lifted with regularity as teenagers on their way? Will the banners that sway in the rafters soon have company? Will the Bossys and the Trottiers, the...
The Islanders have plans to move to the new Barclays Center and this tweet from the team may be hinting at them arriving a year early.
