Veteran QB calls Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady 'maniacal perfectionists'

Blaine Gabbert's had an interesting backup QB career in recent years. Gabbert was Tom Brady's backup in Tampa Bay from 2020-22, and now he's Patrick Mahomes' backup in Kansas City.

Being around GOAT-caliber QBs has left a few impressions on Gabbert. One of those observations is Mahomes and Brady have one major similarity. 

“They are maniacal perfectionists,” Gabbert said, per Arrowhead Pride. “I mean that in the most endearing way possible. They are of the two best, in my opinion, to ever play the game.”

Gabbert noted that Brady and Mahomes are "completely different players" but approach the game on and off the football field in the exact same way. He mentioned the two operate meeting rooms and the practice field in a similar fashion. 

"You can see why both have had sustained success early on and throughout their careers," Gabbert shared. 

Gabbert won a Super Bowl with Brady in Tampa and will look to do the same with Mahomes and the Chiefs. Mahomes already has two Super Bowl wins under his belt. However, Mahomes still has a long way to go to catch up to the now-retired Brady, who won seven Super Bowls and appeared in 10. 

Gabbert's backup career may go down as one of the most interesting of all time. It's rare that one quarterback gets to be QB2 behind two legends of the game. 

If Gabbert's ever to see the field due to a Mahomes injury, perhaps we'll see how much he learned from Brady and Mahomes and was able to implement into his own game. Through 11 seasons in the NFL Gabbert's thrown for 9,302 yards with 51 touchdowns and 47 interceptions.
