Steelers Release Depth Cornerback, Overhaul DB Room

The Steelers have waived cornerback Isaiah Dunn, the team announced on Monday. It comes with an assortment of moves, including the signing of Lavert Hill and the reported signing of Nevelle Clarke, while veteran slot cornerback Duke Dawson was also waived/injured after suffering a knee injury during the team’s game against the Buccaneers.

Dunn joined the team on August 2nd following the injury severe right knee injury to Cory Trice Jr. However, he has failed to move up the depth chart in that time and seems to have fallen out of favor with the coaching staff at this point. As such, they are shuffling the deck at cornerback.

Dunn, 24, has played 17 games in his two-year NFL career. He originally joined the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2021, where he played alongside fellow Steelers defensive back Elijah Riley.

Dunn played in 12 games for the Jets and made one start in 2021, making eight tackles and defending two passes. He played both outside cornerback and as an in-the-box safety for the Jets. Pro Football Focus graded Dunn as a solid tackler, but overall poor run defender and below-average in coverage.

Dunn was released at the end of training camp in 2022 and was claimed on waivers by the Seattle Seahawks. He played one game in Seattle in 2022 before suffering an injury and spending the rest of the season on injured reserve. He was released on July 25, before the start of training camp.
