Seahawks Cut Pro Bowl Pass Rusher Before Steelers Game

The Seahawks have released Pro Bowl pass rusher Frank Clark before the team’s game against the Steelers on Sunday. Clark’s release came after an odd series of events. He started out the season with the Denver Broncos, but the team released him midseason. After that, he would return to Seattle but did not play at all against the Titans.

Throughout the week, the team listed Clark as not practicing, ruling him out for non-injury reasons and rest. When pushed about on Friday, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll seemed terse about it, and did not want to discuss it further. After being inactive for two of the last three games, he is now out.

Clark only has four tackles in the entire year and still has not registered a sack. That’s just one of the many moves that the Seahawks made before they face the Steelers, but they will be thinner up front, losing defensive end Mario Edwards for the game with a knee injury, too.

Linebacker Jordyn Brooks will be a massive missing piece at the second level. His speed gives the team flexibility next to Bobby Wagner, but now they will have to see what they can do with Devin Bush next to him. Bush played on 40 snaps against the Titans, racking up six tackles.

Cornerback Devon Witherspoon seems on track to play. While Carroll did list him as a game-time decision, Witherspoon has practiced all three days this week, and seemed to be more comfortable getting loose leading up to the Steelers game. If he can not play, Artie Burns would start.
