Rams add Super Bowl-winning wideout

The Rams are getting some receiver help for quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Los Angeles has agreed to terms with veteran wideout Demarcus Robinson, per his agency Katz Brothers Sports.

Robinson, 28, spent 2022 with the Baltimore Ravens, finishing second on the team with 458 receiving yards on 48 receptions. A former fourth-round pick for the Chiefs, Robinson spent six seasons in Kansas City, accumulating 145 receptions, 1,679 yards and 14 touchdowns. He earned a Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs during the 2019 season.

Now in Southern California, Robinson has a chance to fill the shoes of another Robinson, Allen Robinson, who the Rams traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in April. Beyond superstar Cooper Kupp, Los Angeles is relatively thin at the receiver position. The team opted not to re-enter the Odell Beckham Jr. sweepstakes this offseason, leaving Ben Skowronek and his 50 career receptions as the penciled-in No. 3 receiver behind Kupp and Van Jefferson.

The Rams struggled mightily in the passing game a season ago. Coming off a 2021 season where they ranked within the top five in both total passing yards (4,642) and passing touchdowns (41), the team accounted for the sixth-fewest passing yards (3,108) and third-fewest touchdowns (16) in 2022.

While Stafford's injury-ridden season had a great deal to do with this dip in production, Los Angeles' inability to stretch the field didn't do Sean McVay's offense any favors. The team tied for the seventh-worst yards per pass attempt average (6.6) while no Rams pass-catcher besides Kupp averaged more than 8.6 yards per reception (minimum 40 receptions). Robinson averaged 11.6 yards per reception during his Kansas City tenure and has averaged 13.1+ yards per reception twice during his career.

Robinson isn't going to single-handedly fix Los Angeles' offensive woes. He's not that type of player. Nevertheless, don't be surprised if Robinson quickly works his way into the receiver rotation and pushes Jefferson for targets as Stafford's most sought-after wide receiver after Kupp.
