NFL insider gives update on Raheem Mostert and Jaylen Waddle ahead of matchup with Chiefs

Fans of the Miami Dolphins have grown extremely weary of reading non-stop doom and gloom updates on the (poor) health of their players as the regular season has come to a conclusion.  Unfortunately, that's largely been the news with few exceptions.

Fortunately, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, that might finally be about to change.

According to Rapoport, the Dolphins are expected to have the services of RB Raheem Mostert and WR Jaylen Waddle on Saturday night when the Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs square off at Arrowhead Stadium.

"There does seem to be some optimism according to coach Mike McDaniel that he will be able to be out there," Rapoport said on Good Morning Football on Friday.  "One benefit of missing the last two games.  He is rested and should be ready to go."

Mostert is dealing with ankle and knee injuries that sidelined him for losses to Baltimore and Buffalo.  The veteran running back enjoyed a career season for Miami, totaling a league-best 18 rushing touchdowns and 21 rushing and receiving scores while also rushing for 1000 yards for the first time in his career (1012 yards).  His return would boost an offense that sorely needs one.

Things are also looking good for Waddle, according to Rapoport.

"Similar situation for Jaylen Waddle, their star receiver.  He had a high ankle sprain.  Also missed the last two games of the season.  Seemed to be actually pretty close to playing in the final game, the big one to see if they were going to win the East, which of course they did not. He also should be good to go this week."

McDaniel had talked previously about Waddle's toughness, and being able to return from a high ankle sprain after missing just two games exhibits that toughness.  Miami's offense hasn't been able to replicate Waddle's success on the field with Cedric Wilson, Jr. or anyone else on the offense, so Waddle's return and ability to be productive would be a huge boost on Saturday night for the Dolphins.

Now fans should feel a bit more encouraged as the wait continues for inactives to be released around 6:30 pm ET on Saturday night.
