Latest CBS 2024 NFL mock draft doesn't foresee change at the top

He has had a rough two games, but the player projected to be the first pick in the 2024 NFL Draft isn't expected to be selected anywhere past the first team on the clock.

Southern California quarterback Caleb Williams remains the favorite to be the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

John Schneider of CBS Sports released his latest mock draft Friday and has the Chicago Bears taking the reigning Heisman Trophy winner first overall.

"Even after the down game against Notre Dame and a so-so effort against the Utah Utes, the Bears don't hesitate much to pick Williams here," said Schneider.

Williams threw three interceptions in a blowout loss at rival Notre Dame and didn't throw a touchdown in the Trojans' loss last week to Utah.

Nevertheless, Schneider believes the 2-5 Bears, who own the league-worst Carolina Panthers' first-round pick in 2024, won't be fazed by his recent play.

A big reason is the lackluster play of Chicago's 2021 first-round pick, former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields.

"Justin Fields has not taking a step forward in … outside of his huge Week 5 performance, and now, he's injured," added Schneider.

A lot will happen between now when the NFL Draft begins in Detroit in April, but it doesn't appear Williams will see his stock drop in the eyes of NFL evaluators.
