ESPN’s Mike Greenberg Claims The Detroit Lions Have 'Missed Their Window'; Says Green Bay Packers Are Better
Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Detroit Lions were one of the best stories of the 2023 season. They made their first NFC Championship game in decades and came close to making their first-ever Super Bowl. However, they lost in heartbreaking fashion to the San Francisco 49ers. As the offseason started, many were optimistic about their chances in 2024. ESPN’s Mike Greenberg doesn’t share that optimism.

Mike Greenberg Thinks The Detroit Lions “Missed Their Window”

Greenberg’s argument is two-fold. First, he thinks the Green Bay Packers are simply better.

“I think they missed their window. I think their shot to win the championship was last year. I think they’re getting surpassed in their own division. I think Green Bay is now better than them.”

He was impressed with what the Packers have done to reload after trading Aaron Rodgers to the Jets. His second argument is that we have said this before about other teams. We were positive the Buffalo Bills would be back after losing to the Chiefs in the infamous 13-second game. People thought the Bengals would be running the AFC with Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase. Neither of those things happened. Nothing is a guarantee in the NFL.

Does Greenberg Have A Point?

It is debatable who has the better team. The Detroit Lions aren’t void of talent, and they have made some nice moves in free agency. However, his second point is still valid. Nothing is guaranteed in the NFL. The Bills still cannot get over the hump and are now completely remaking the team. Cincinnati dealt with injuries last year, and the bill has come due on their young team. Dan Marino made a Super Bowl in his second season, and everyone was sure he would win multiple championships.

Detroit missed a window last year. Is it the only window they will get? Maybe not, but nothing is guaranteed in the NFL.
