Broncos have lost to five different former employees in five games this season

The Denver Broncos lost for the fourth time in five games on Sunday, dropping their record to 1-4.

In each one of the defeats, Denver has seen at least one former employee on the opposing sideline capturing the victory.

In Week 1, the Broncos fell to head coach Josh McDaniels's Las Vegas Raiders. Following his first stint as the offensive coordinator with the New England Patriots from 2006-08, the 47-year-old served as the lead man in Denver for 2009 and part of the 2010 campaign.

The Broncos missed the playoffs after going 8-8 under McDaniels in his first season at the helm, before starting 3-9 in his second year, which led to his firing. McDaniels finished his tenure in Denver with just an 11-17 mark (.393 winning percentage), but things have been even worse so far in Las Vegas with a 7-14 mark through one-plus season.

First-year head coach Sean Payton and company lost their second straight home tilt to begin the campaign in Week 2 against the Washington Commanders. The NFC East club has fourth-year defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio assisting head coach Ron Rivera. Del Rio — who was the Jacksonville Jaguars' head coach for eight-plus seasons from 2003-11 and then with the Oakland Raiders from 2015-17 — was the Broncos defensive coordinator under John Fox from 2012-14.

The Broncos not only fell to 0-3 with a 50-point drubbing in South Beach in Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins but lost to a pair of former connections in the AFC East team's current defensive coordinator in Vic Fangio and head coach Mike McDaniel as well.

Fangio held his lone head-coaching gig to date in the Mile High City from 2019-2021, leading the team to a pair of seven-win seasons, no playoff berths and an overall mark of 19-30.

At the age of 22, McDaniel landed his first NFL job as an intern/ball boy with Denver during the 2005 campaign.

After the Broncos got in the win column with a Week 4 defeat of the Chicago Bears, they lost their third home game in as many tries on Sunday against the New York Jets.

Despite featuring a pair of one-win teams, the battle was one of the most-hyped games on Sunday's docket. It included Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett's return to Denver after his disastrous 15-game run as the team's head coach in 2022 and came following Payton's harsh criticism of Hackett over the summer.

New York helped their coach get revenge on Payton, coming away with a 31-21 decision.
